L'apocalypse des Animaux French pressing front cover - 1st pressingThis album would mark the first released music from Vangelis' work with Frederic Rossif, the gone (but not forgotten) director most known for his documentary To Live and Die in Madrid. Originally recorded in 1970, the music was not released on vinyl until 1973 and has remained in print ever since. The first French-pressed LP and all the Canadian LPs suggest that "Creation du Monde" is actually to be a longer track, clocking in at 17:45. However, upon playing the LP, one quickly discovers that that is not correct, that something strange happened somewhere. At the end of the song (as we know it), there is a few seconds of silence, and then the last couple of minutes of the track are repeated, like somebody dropping the needle down in the middle of a track while playing a record. A pity too, because if you watch the actual Rossif film, one learns that the song actually does continue past what we know. I always wondered why the album was so short, given the extensive amount of music Vangelis composed for the L'apocalypse des Animaux series. Other tracks on the album have longer versions in the film series. As for singles, there are no singles that have been discovered as of yet, although I suspect there is a single for "La Petite Fille de la Mer" out there somewhere.
