VANGELIS Bootlegs

Even Vangelis has to deal with bootlegs of his music. For the most part, Vangelis escaped unscathed during the vinyl years. But with the CD medium, it has become much easier for manufacturers to produce these items. There are three types of unofficial recordings to consider. The first are what I call "bootlegs", titles that Vangelis did not authorize the release of, and that were made in mass quanities by some manufacturer. The second are "pirates", Vangelis titles that already exist but are repackaged without Vangelis' permission and without Vangelis receiving any royalties. Most of these are coming out of Bulgaria and Russia. The last types are "homemade". These are CDs that were made by fans using CDRs, utilizing existing sources such as videotape, using software to attempt to remove the dialogues, etc. From a collector's standpoint, they are pesky items. How does one value them? I will eventually note all of these in this section, but for now, I refer you to the Vangelis Odyssey website.
