VANGELIS 1492 Conquest of Paradise

Vangelis released his second east west title in 1992 as the soundtrack to the Ridley Scott's 1492 Conquest of Paradise. There was little fanfare, as the film was not successful. However, this album really caught fire in 1995 when the German boxer, Henry Maske, adopted it as his hymne when he entered the boxing ring. Extremely popular in Germany, the album and title song, "Conquest of Paradise" was catapulted to the top of the charts in Germany. The rest of Europe soon followed. The record sold millions of copies worldwide. Nobody could have predicted it. This was a great release for collectors, even early on, as this album produced two singles and some promos. east west was happy to promote this album, thankfully, given their lack of promotional materials for the previous album, The City. This album served Vangelis with another huge success to rival that of Chariots of Fire.
