How surprised was I to learn a couple of months ago that Vangelis would compose and perform a song with the talented and beautiful violinist, Vanessa-Mae! Since they both share the Sony Classical label, it just seems natural that the two of them should work on a piece together, titled "Roxanne's Veil", on her newst release, Choreography. And what a great song it is. I initially thought of "Losing Sleep" on the Voices album when I heard this somber piece, and the mood of the song requires Vanessa-Mae to give a restrained performance. As a result, the violin sounds right at home with Vangelis. And it is not just a coincidence that the track name, "Roxanne's Veil", seems like it has a relationship to the Vangelis soundtrack to Alexander. The track is indeed included on the CD soundtrack of Alexander, and appears in a Vangelis-only version in the film as well.
