The world-famous cellist, Julian Lloyd Webber (brother to Andrew Lloyd Webber) found himself recording a track with Vangelis in 1986 for his Encore! Travels With My Cello Volume 2 album. The track, written by Vangelis, is titled "Une Après-Midi". In the liner notes, Lloyd Webber has this to say: "Ever since my chance meeting two years ago with synthesizer-king Vangelis, I have been reminding him of his remark that the cello was the only instrument he could not reproduce convincingly on his synthesizers. I suggested that the only solution to his problem would be to write a piece specially for synthesizers - with cello. 'Une Après-Midi' is the result." Vangelis must have continued to work on this sound, as evidenced for the soundtrack to "Francesco" in 1989. Convinced me. This album is out of print, and not so easy to find these days.
