Every now and then you get a pleasant surprise that comes your way, when you least expect it. Who could have thought or predicted that in 2003, an old recording in 1986 by Vangelis, that was truly a gift from one friend to another, would be shared with the world? That is exactly what has happened here, and quite an unusual event at that. For here we have Vangelis performing a song by Michael Hoppé, himself a very accomplished composer and performer. On his latest album, Mr. Hoppé has shared this wonderful Vangelis performance of "The Parting" as the closing song to his new CD release, Solace. The song is nearly 8 minutes of vintage Vangelis, and the song is very beautiful.

The CD itself is also very much in line with it title, and involves performances by The Prague Symphony, Martin Tillman, Heidi Fielding, Kenton Youngstrom, Eugene Fodor, Andrea Bauer, Dwain Briggs and Harold Moses. I was mesmerized by the tracks ("Lachrymosa" is a standout for me) on this CD, and I am certainly more curious about Mr. Hoppé, especially since I had the pleasure of interviewing him recently (click here for more details).
