Actress. Model. Singer. Rebel. Patriot. Wife. Politician. Legend. Just a few words that do not even begin to describe Melina Mercouri, God rest her soul. Vangelis was graced with the opportunity to record with her in 1973 for four tracks off of her Si Melina...M'etait Contée album, itself based on a French television performance (Do you have a copy of this? If so, write me!). These four songs are "Je Te Dirai les Mots", "Ou Que Me Porte Mon Voyage, La Grece Me Blesse", "Sinefiasmeni Kiriaki" and "Athenes, Ma Ville". Melina was so wonderful. I wonder what Vangelis thought when performing with her? He must have been impressed by her very presence. The LP is difficult to locate. You'll have better luck finding the French pressing. Thankfully, Polydor Greece released this album on CD in 1994. Oh, I should note, "Athenes, Ma Ville" is based upon a section from Vangelis' second album, Fais Que Ton Reve Soit Plus Long Que la Nuit.
